Sudan: Refuge and Diaspora is a visual testimony of the forced exodus of hundreds of thousands fleeing the war in Sudan—one of the most devastating conflicts of our time. Since April 2023, clashes between the Army and the Rapid Support Forces have displaced over 12 million people, creating one of the world’s most severe displacement crises.
This project documents the journey of those escaping violence, revealing the harshness of the journey and the uncertainty of their destination. Every day, thousands of refugees arrive at transit centers carrying only what they could salvage. Entire families are crammed into makeshift spaces, enduring extreme conditions with no clean water or proper sanitation. Life in these places is defined by waiting—waiting for status, for aid, for an uncertain future.
Through photography, Sudan: Refuge and Diaspora sheds light on the resilience of those who, despite their losses, continue forward. It captures suffering but also the dignity of those rebuilding their lives in exile. This project aims to raise awareness of the humanitarian emergency and the urgent need for a global response to Sudan’s crisis.
Each image tells an individual story within this massive exodus—faces marked by exhaustion, gazes filled with both fear and hope, bodies carrying not just belongings but the weight of displacement. Photography does more than document; it confronts us with a reality that, though distant to many, shapes the present and future of millions.
